For almost 70 years we have provided the highest quality classes in classical ballet, street/jazz dance and tap dancing for all ages and all levels.
We believe we have been Hampstead’s choice of dancing school for so long because ultimately our children are so happy. At Rona Hart we know that all children are different so we provide a range of dance styles to cater for all personalities. Our classes are structured and yet imaginative and our teachers disciplined and yet fun. We pride ourselves on our great parent feedback that our school is a nurturing, stimulating and inspiring place to be. Many pupils enter as ‘baby ballerinas’ and never want to leave.
Our minimum age requirements for entry are 2 years 6 months for our baby ballet classes and age 3 years for street/jazz and tap dance. However we have many prospective parents register their children even before they reach the minimum age to guarantee their places and we would recommend doing this, it’s never too early!
Children may enter the school at any age above the minimum - and throughout the year. Entry level for a new student will depend on the child’s age, natural ability or previous examinations passed with another school or examining board.
Children have the opportunity to take examinations in classical ballet in the Cecchetti method, part of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance examining board (ISTD). Examinations are completely optional and are certainly not essential for being part of our school. We have a mixture of students who like to take the exams and those who do not, but all are trained to the same level and treated equally.
The children participate in the school’s own productions, and to date we have staged ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Hansel and Gretal’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘A Victorian Funfair’ to name but a few. We are also privileged to have staged our production ‘Repertoire’ at the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler’s Wells in 2011. We are honoured to be able to perform in this world famous venue and hope to return there very soon!
We are also often asked to provide children for special events such as The London Children’s Ballet auditions, cultural festivals and even the premiere of a celebrity album!
Our students are also encouraged to audition for associate schemes, scholarships, vocational schools and to take summer courses to further their education. Information about relevant schemes can be provided on request.
